Dr Kerrie McDonald PhD

Dr McDonald runs a brain cancer research laboratory at UNSW, in which, together with her team and various collaborators, she has made considerable advances that have resulted in changes to brain cancer clinical practice. A significant investment in research efforts is required in order to improve patient survival outcomes and quality of life, and thereby reduce its burden.

The focus of Dr McDonald’s lab is to provide important additional molecular information on the future management of patients and further enhance our knowledge on how genes influence patient outcomes in response to treatment and how treatment can be tailored to patients to maximise response while minimising adverse effects.

Improving outcomes for these patients would have far-reaching implications in the community for patients and their carers, potentially keeping patients employed and functional for longer, and at best leading to a proportion of patients with very long term survival or even cure.
